EXT. OUTER SPACE

Strange, otherworldly musical tones sound out, in rhythm with shimmering stars.

TITLE CARD:

'Indeed there are untold things in this universe which defy our perception of reality.' -- William Shakespeare

With a cymbal crash and rousing fanfare, the words CEREBRAL FORCE float from the dark reaches of space.

OPENING TITLES follow, accompanied by a triumphant MAIN TITLE MARCH over-stuffed with French horns and secondary themes.

As the final credit appears, A METEOR HURTLES PAST. The planet EARTH comes into view, slowly spinning, as a somber NARRATOR with a stentorian, theatrically-trained voice, pipes in:

NARRATOR (V.O.)
This is the Planet Earth, newly arrived into what its inhabitants consider the late twentieth century. Now, today, a handful of these same inhabitants are about to be paid a visit by a strange meteor from the darkest reaches of outer space.

The meteor enters Earth's atmosphere awash in flames. It zips across the sky, travelling over the North Pole.

The meteor's trajectory carries it over the Canadian Rockies, scattering a herd of reindeer on the ground below.

INT. ARMY BASE - DAY

An army COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, 21, tracks the meteor's course. His LIEUTENANT, 27, appears at his side.

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Lieutenant! The meteor is on a direct course for Santa Fe, New Mexico!

LIEUTENANT
Santa Fe! There's over a million people in that city and its surrounding region! An area of unparalleled beauty with cosmopolitan appeal will be completely decimated! We've got to shoot that rock down! Alert command!

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Yes sir!

EXT. ARMY BASE - DAY

Alarms blare, A radar dish swivels. A rocket launches into the sky.

EXT. TAOS STATE PARK - DAY

The meteor hurtles over a forest, toward the outskirts of Taos, New Mexico as the rocket screams along its intercept course.

The two collide and a terrific explosion rips across the sky. On the heels of the explosion, a strange purple dust fills the air.

A private plane glides into the midst of the purple dust.

INT. PRIVATE PLANE - DAY

The plane's pilot, millionaire GARY DYSTROM, 39, tries to maintain control of his aircraft.

GARY
What's going on?! I'm losing control! Fight it! Come on, Gary! Fight it! You can do it!

THE GLASS OVER SEVERAL DIALS POPS AND SHATTERS. The mysterious PURPLE DUST SEEPS INTO THE COCKPIT, swirling around Gary. He begins to choke.

GARY (CONT'D)
I'm choking! This can't be! I can't breathe! I'm blacking out...

Gary slips into unconsciousness.

EXT. SKY OVER NEW MEXICO - DAY

Gary's plane yaws toward the treetops.

EXT. FEDERAL LAND- DAY

Park ranger SHAD GRIFFIN, 26, a stocky fellow with owlish glasses and an awkward hairstyle similar to that of Ludwig Van Beethoven's, guns his jeep down a jagged dirt road.

Amidst the forest landscape beyond the roadside, PATCHES OF FIRE ARE CROPPING UP EVERYWHERE.

RADIO VOICE (O.S.)
How bad is it, Shad?

SHAD
(into his radio)
Mountain tower, there are spot fires everywhere my eyes can see.

He looks up to the sky and suddenly puts on the brakes.

The jeep slews to a halt, and Shad gazes at the air above, awestruck.Wisps and tendtrils of purple dust are working through the air, heading for the jeep.

SHAD (CONT'D)
Holy smokes! Some sort of pollutant working it's way down through the sky toward me and...somehow...taunting me. Could it be dust from that explosion?

The purple dust envelopes Shad. He begins to lose consciousness.

SHAD (CONT'D)
Oh... I'm fainting...
